Chennai registers top performance in CBSE exams

Girls continued to outshine boys by registering a pass percentage of 85.9 against 77.4 of boys in the Class XII exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. CBSE announced that 81 per cent students cleared the test an increase of 0.09 percent this year compared to last out of a total 637,976 students registered for this year's exam.

Chennai region registered the best performance by students as 92.06 per cent students cleared the test. The pass rate of regular students is 82.69 per cent as compared to 49.72 per cent of private students. A total of 63,644 students have been placed in compartment this year.

The test was conducted in 5614 centres in six regions of CBSE from March 2 to April 2. About 58 students were found to have resorted to unfair means during the examination, the CBSE said.

Students of Jawahar Nehru Vidyalayas (JNV) have registered over 94 per cent pass rate against 92 per cent last year. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan (KVS) have witnessed good performance by students with 91.32 per cent pupils clearing the test.

About 82 per cent students of government schools have cleared the test.Students, who are not satisfied with their marks, can apply for their verification to the respective regional offices within 21 days from declaration of results.

The CBSE had reduced the main answer book to 40 pages this year from 48 earlier. It had provided scribes free of cost to the blind, physically handicapped, autistic and dyslexic students.The board had made available sample question papers in advance so that students can gauge what types of questions can come.

The CBSE had announced the results for Ajmer, Panchkula and Chennai regions on Wednesday.The CBSE has also launched psychological counselling for students through tele helpline, Interactive Voice Response System and its website.

It will continue till June 3. Psychological help is provided to the students during this time to cope with post result situations successfully.Thirty-seven principals and trained counsellors from CBSE affiliated schools, psychologists and social scientists are operating Tele-Helpline individually from 8 am to 8 pm in four time slots.

The counsellors are located at 18 centres, including Delhi, Noida, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Bhopal, Nagpur, Bangalore and Guwahati. The CBSE is also providing tele-counselling through Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) mode.
