NERIM, North Eastern Regional Institute of Management is a Post-Graduate College established in the year 1992 by the NERIM Educational Society, registered under Societies Registration Act XXI/1860.

Gauhati University is the first University established in North East India. The University was established under the Gauhati University Act 1947 (Assam Act, XVI of 1947) in the year 1948.The first Court meeting of the University was held on 26-1-48 at the old Sudmerson Hall of Cotton College, Guwahati. Accordingly the date of 26 January is observed as the Foundation Day of Gauhati University.

Tezpur University was established by an Act of Parliament in 1994. The objects of this unitary type Central University as envisaged in the statutes are that it shall strive to offer employment oriented and interdisciplinary course to meet the local and regional aspirations and the development of the state of Assam and also offer courses and promote research in areas which are of special and direct relevance to the region and in the emerging areas in Science and Technology.

The Gauhati Medical College has enjoyed a prestigious status in the country for its academic pursuites and patients care, and as a referral centre for speciality and superspeciality treatment.The Gauhati Medical College (GMC) took its start under the stewardship of Professor I. Jahan from October, 1960 to June, 1961. Professor S.N. Sarma was transferred from AMC, Dibrugarh and he took over the charge of the Office of the Principal, Gauhati Medical College on 3rd June, 1961. Professor S.N.

The Silchar Medical College & Hospital remains the only referral hospital in the southern part of Assam and so, is the sole custodian of health care system of the entire Barak Valley. Being situated in a very strategic geographic location, it also renders its services to the ailing community of the neighbouring states like Mizoram, North Tripura, West Manipur and South Meghalaya.

Jorhat Law College (JLC), Assam is the Second Law Institute of North-Eastern region of India. The JLC was established in 1964 under Gauhati University, which has since then established itself as a premier institute for legal studies in India. The College provides an opportunity to explore limitless options in legal profession and is setting new standards in legal education.

Nalbari Law College, NalbariNalbari is famous for Sanskrit Education. Various Sanskrit Schoolar was born in Nalbari. Bireswaracharya who wrote famous book "BrittaManjari", was born in Nalbari. Nalbari is known as Nabadeep of Assam because it has various sanskrit education centre.First Middle School was established in Nalbari in 1887. In 1917 Dy. Commisioner of Kamrup Sri Benting Sahab formally declared it as Nalbari High School. Later on this school was named as "Nalbari Gordon High School" in the Name of Chief Commissioner Gordon.
