Foundry and Forge Industries play vital role in the industrial development of the country. There is a great shortage of qualified engineers and well-trained specialists to run these manufacturing industries efficiently. Seized of this problem and to provide the requisite quality of trained man power at different levels, Govt. of India set up the National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology in the year 1966 in collaboration with UNDP-UNESCO.During the last three decades NIFFT has earned a reputation as a leading institute for teaching, training,
research & development, consultancy and documentation and information retrieval services in metal casting and metal forming technology.
NIFFT is registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act of 1860.The management of the institute is vested with Board of Governors with chairman at its apex and members representing Govt. of India (Ministry of HRD & Industry), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Private and public enterprises, technical and R&D Institutions, etc. The Institute received technical and financial assistance during its formative period in the form of UNESCO fellowships, experts services and laboratory equipment etc.NIFFT has four main teaching departments - Foundry Technology, Forge Technology, Materials and Metallurgical Engg. The Laboratory Block comprises various laboratories such as Sand Laboratory, Metallography, FMS, Non-destructive and mechanical Testing, Spectroscopy, Environmental and Pollution control Lab, Metrology, Electronics, SEM, Forging Laboratory, Computer Centre etc. The Workshop has comprehensive facilities viz. Heat Treatment, Foundry, Forge, Pattern Shop and Machine Shop. All the shops and Laboratories are adequately equipped with modern and sophisticated instruments for efficient training .
