90% Score Has Lost Its Value

Even after five rounds of online admissions, there are still students with 90% score did not secure seat in junior colleges. Though the scores are above the cut-off point, the students either not made it to a seat in college or did not make it to the college of their seats. Once upon a time ,90% score is more than enough to get a seat in any junior college. But today the same 90% has no value.

The reasons behind the seatless students with 90% score, might be due many factors - the student is not well trained in filling up the online admission forms.Inadequate application form could lead to an rejection.

As per certain colleges like Sathaye College, students with even 93% did not get the seat. There are cases where certain students were allotted seats , but not on the online admission process. But some students with 91% were allotted seats in the third round merit list. According to the principal Kavita Rege, it is very difficult to explain has the colleges do not have a say in the students admission.

Below are experiences of certain students who did not make into the college of their, despite scoring above the cut-off point of the college they applied.

Patkar College - Student scored more than the cut-off point specified by the college. He went to another college and bought an admission form, but lost the seat due to faulty information provided by the clerk of that college. Now he is seatless.

Another student Nishigandha Shinde, who had scored 90% did not get into the college of her choice. Though she scored 90% (500/550) which is higher than the cut-off point at the college , she did not make it.

According to the SIES college Principal Harsha Mehta , Students applied to only handful of colleges , with the confident of getting in. The students filled only 3 over dozen preferences. The students fail to realize , that with the best-five policy , majority of students score increased and in the process 90% lost its value
The main reason could be that the the school teachers and principals failed to give adequate training to fill out the online admission applications.
