Education Bills Rot in Rajya Sabha

Indian politicians again put education at the bottom of the list of priorities by citing paucity of time for not approving key education bills in winter session of parliament. The same politicians had time to approve a number of irrelevant bills that are not the highest priority for the country.

In the winter session of 2011, not a single bill was from the HRD ministry and not even the ones related to Education were approved. Education minister Kapil Sibal tabled three bills around National Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Technology and Education Tribunal and they have been pending for more than 6 months with the parliament. All 3 bills have been passed by the Rajya Sabha but have not been taken up by Rajya Sabha due to paucity of time.

For the next session, Kapil sibal will also introduce a new bill already approved by the cabinet around the Prohibition of unfair practices in technical education.
