JNU Fills Less Than 50% OBC Seats This Year
This year Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was allotted 27% OBC seats. But JNU filled only 396 out of the 683 OBC seats. In other words the university succeeded in filling up 15% out of the 27% OBC seats. Majority of the vacant seats have been allotted to general category.
Last year JNU was allotted with 18% OBC quota. The university filled 330 out of 413 seats. The university did not struggle to find suitable OBC candidates compared to this year. Infact the university was filtering candidates with the admission process designed by them.
The university has managed to fill OBC seats in the following courses.24% of OBC seats have been filled in BA courses.In MA courses, only 13.6 per cent of the 27 per cent OBC seats have been filled. M Phil courses offered for the Social Sciences has managed to fill 14% OBC seats.
As far as admissions are concerned, sciences perform better than the social sciences. About 29 of the 35 OBC seats are vacant in MA economics, 24 of 25 in MA Political Science, 22 of 23 in MA Sociology and 18 of 19 in MA Arts and Aesthetics.
