Medical Admission Process To Government Quota Seats Postponed


The Self-Financing Medical College Managements have decided to postpone the medical admission for the government quota seats until september 13. On this day the supreme court will process the case relating to admissions .

On Tuesday , Kerala Private Medical College Managements Association held a meeting regarding the medical admission issue. Several decisions were made in the meeting.

The meeting decided to postpone the medical admissions to government quota seats. This decision to postpone admissions to government quota seats would further delay the admission process. There is a rumor that the State Government had been deliberately delaying the fifth round of allotment for helping the managements.

However decided to proceed with admissions to management quota seats available.The admissions ae done on the basis of the rank-list of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE). The students included in this rank list agreed to pay 5 lakh - 5.5 lakh as caution deposit.The admissions to mangement quota seats will end on sep 7th. The applications will be available from thursday.

The meeting also decided to ask increase in fee for government quota seats.

This delay has put the state governement in pressure , as all the medical admissions have to be completed by sept 30th. As per the Medical Council of India (MCI), the MBBS seats has to be filled up by sept 30th. With this deadline, The state government has to hurry the admission process.

Self-financing colleges like Ayuveda and Siddha medical colleges, inorder to protect their interest , have postponed the admissions. But theses colleges have agreed to allot certain percentage of seats as government quota seats. The total number of seats in self-financing medical colleges are about 1,100, out of which 550 are marked as government quota seats, 15% as NRI seats, 450 seats under management quota.

According to MCI , students with 50 marks, Students belong to SC/ST and backward class quota with 40 marks are eligible for MBBS seats. As per the criteria mentioned above, only 9,637 students satisfy the eligibility criteria.

Bottom line - self-financing medical colleges fear that how many students int he rank-list would be willing or afford to pay the high fees fixed for management quota seats.
