Getting an Online Math Degree

If you decide that earning a math degree online is right for you, there are several factors you must consider when choosing the best institution for earning your degree online.

First of all, you must make sure that the online math degree program is fully accredited in the area you are interested in pursuing. Even if the degree program is accredited, you must make sure that your employer will recognize degree in that area from that institution.

For example, a math teacher may be interested in moving up to teaching a higher grade level within his school district. Let’s say he wants to go from teaching basic math to elementary school children, to teaching calculus to high school kids.

Without checking the facts, he takes the required courses he needs online, in order to be able to teach this advanced subject. When he sends the transcript to the state he works in, he finds out that his state does not recognize the online math degree from that particular institution of higher learning. He has earned his credits, but has nothing to show for it in career terms.

This important example teaches a very important lesson. It shows why, if you are not careful, you may earn your math degree online, only to find that you have gained nothing for it in practical terms.
